About SPECC

A local church that treats you like family

We're an evangelical congregational church on the corner of Main and Marais — old enough to have deep roots, warm enough to feel like home.

Our story

Building the church of Jesus Christ in Sea Point

For years, ordinary people have gathered on this corner to worship, to belong and to grow — office workers and grandmothers, students and young families, South Africans and newcomers from across the world. Sea Point has always been one of Cape Town's most diverse neighbourhoods, and our church looks a lot like the street outside our doors.

We're an evangelical congregational church. In plain English: we love Jesus, we take the Bible seriously as God's word, and — congregational — we make decisions together as a family rather than being run from the top down. There's nothing polished or exclusive about us. We're just a community that would genuinely love to know you.

Whether you've walked with God for decades or you're quietly curious and have never set foot in a church, there is a place for you here.

What holds us together

The things we care about most

Everything we do comes back to a few simple commitments — the ones that shape how we gather, how we welcome, and how we love our neighbourhood.

  • Bible-centred, Christ-exalting teaching
  • A genuinely multi-cultural family
  • Every generation worshipping together
  • Come exactly as you are
  • Rooted in Sea Point, open to everyone
  • Every visitor personally welcomed

A warm, Christ-centred family in the heart of Sea Point.

What we believe

Ancient faith, honestly held

We hold to the historic Christian faith — the good news that God made us, that we've all wandered from him, and that in Jesus he came to bring us home.

It's a faith you can ask hard questions of. If you'd like to dig into what we believe and why, we'd love to walk you through it.

  • The Bible as God's trustworthy word
  • Jesus, crucified and risen, at the centre
  • Grace, not performance
  • A family, not an audience

Come and see for yourself

The best way to get to know us is simply to join us on a Sunday.
